Miami Heat vs Philadelphia 76ers Game Breakdown #29
Welcome to Simply Ballin’s game breakdown of the Miami Heat. After each game, you will see my thoughts on the game, film breakdown, and other interesting bits that stood out to me.
This breakdown won’t be much of a breakdown, more of a shorter commentary.
Quick Thoughts
Of course, it would be the Philadelphia 76ers that would be down 23 points to basically Kyle Lowry, role players, and undrafted players.
In games like this where there are so many players out with injuries, you’d just want the game to be competitive. As long as the team is showing some fight and effort, then the loss wouldn’t feel as bad.
Well, I can certainly say I wasn’t expecting this kinda game and wasn’t expecting a win especially with Tyler Herro missing the game.
I was already planning on going to sleep but then I see the Heat are up by how much??? And Gabe Vincent scored how many???
This was one of the most fun games I’ve seen despite it being much closer at the end, but that’s understandable — a home team will always make a run.
Gabe’s Career Game
Now, if you told me the Heat had won, I wouldn’t have guessed it was because of Vincent and his team-high 27 points, shooting 7–12 from deep.
It’s funny how this would be the second time where Vincent sets a career-high against the 76ers.
The 76ers have undrafted players setting career highs and there are still people that would rather be the 6ers.
This was the second game where the Heat don’t win if he didn’t go off — that is definitely not what I expected at the start of the season. Vincent has exceeded so many expectations and has legitimately been a quality player and stepped up when needed.
A yet another example of an undrafted player that would most likely not get these minutes on most other teams or would have developed into this type of player.
That has been one of the reasons why the Heat have been able to keep afloat with all these injuries.
Duncan!
Another great game from Duncan Robinson. The end stats, especially his shooting splits may not show it — finished the game with 6–16 shooting and 4–11 from deep.
But the Heat went on that run because of that hot start from deep and in the first quarter he had three of his four triples.
Despite struggling with the shot after the first quarter, he still did all the things he has been doing recently.
He also finished with five free throws and three assists. That is the main change in his game in the past few games. We know that he can do other things and now with the team shorthanded, he has continued to step up and even simply try to do more.
3pt From Embiid in the 2nd Half
Over the past week or two, people have been talking about Joel Embiid and how great he has been recently.
Then you factor in that the Heat had Dewayne Dedmon, PJ Tucker, Omer Yurtseven, and KZ Okpala as the big rotation, and you may come to the conclusion that Embiid will dominate.
And well, in the first quarter he had eight points and seven rebounds. Then he went 11 and 7 the rest of the game — scoring only three points in the second half and going scoreless in the fourth.
Per NBA matchup stats, Dedmon guarded Embiid for 33 possessions and he went 3–10 against him — that is so great to even type out.
