Miami Heat vs Orlando Magic Game Breakdown #34
Welcome to Simply Ballin’s Miami Heat game breakdown. Here you will find a recap of all the threads and tweets.
There are two main threads: offensive film and defensive film thread. In each of those threads, there is a collection of the main offensive and defensive breakdowns.
And what this article is it’s more of an ICYMI with some added context, plus my quick thoughts on the game.
This one is a shorter one; a commentary instead. I didn’t get to watch the game fully, as it was Christmas
Game Summary
First game back from his injury and Jimmy Butler is already leaving his marks on the game. He finished with 17 points 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals — I predicted six steals, so I was a bit off, sadly.
The Heat came back to earth and had one of their worst shooting nights — they finished the game shooting 29% on 34 3s. Surprisingly, though, they still managed to win the game.
That doesn’t happen often. It’s actually rare to see a win after such a poor shooting effort.
Duncan Robinson didn’t help the shooting by going 2–8, but he did do other things well.
When you look at the box score, there aren’t many things that stand out from one particular player — the team had five players scoring in double digits, and the fact that the team was missing most of its starters is more impressive.
Four of the players that were in double digits were undrafted and last year, or even at the beginning of the season weren’t looked at as rotational players.
It makes the team so fun to watch to see players like Omer Yurtseven finish with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Or see Caleb Martin, who is just on the two-way contract, be tied with Butler for most points scored.
But it was a tough scene on offense — per Cleaning the Glass, their offensive rating was 103 (29th percentile) with a 46% effective field goal.
It was their defense that got the win. They finished with a 92.2 defensive rating (92nd) and forced the Orlando Magic to a 21% turnover percentage (95th).
